In an emergency

How to Use an AED

It talks you through every step. You can do this.

Using an AED during an emergency response
1

Turn it on

Send someone for the AED. Turn it on and do exactly what the voice says.

2

Bare and dry the chest

Open or cut the shirt, wipe the chest dry, and stick the pads on bare skin exactly where they're pictured on them.

3

Let it check

It will say "don't touch the patient" while it reads the heart. Make sure no one is touching them.

4

Shock, then back to CPR

If it says to shock, make sure everyone is clear, press the button, then go right back to pushing on the chest.

The AED analyzes the rhythm and advises a shock only when it detects a shockable rhythm. Turn it on and follow its prompts.
