Daycare Emergency Basics

Infant and child ready, every shift.

Infant and child CPR practice in an AHA BLS class
1

Choking

Baby (under 1): 5 back blows face-down, then 5 chest thrusts face-up — never abdominal thrusts on a baby. Child: 5 back blows, then 5 abdominal thrusts. Repeat until it clears; call 911.

2

Infant & child CPR

Not breathing normally? Call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest — two fingers for a baby, one or two hands for a child — letting it come all the way back up. Use the AED (child pads or mode if you have them).

3

Find your AED

Everyone should know where it is before they need it. Our AED is located: ____________ · Our trained staff: ____________.

When it’s a child, knowing the first move is everything — practice it with your team.
